Pacific/A Future
The Pacific/A Future collective team is immersed in a social practice art project with the community of Pacifica to help create an intergenerational dialogue for the town to culturally process sea level rise and erosion. We have knitted together and woven plastic yarn made from the proliferation of an immense number of plastic bags, which has accelerated during the pandemic. We have led collaborative workshops with Cindy Abbott, Director of the Sanchez Art Center and other Pacificans to invent new words for this challenging time as sea level rise and erosion continues in this community. Many California coastal communities will have to grapple with sea level rise in order to shore up communities for the next generations. This can be a tension filled proposition for many areas. Our aim is to bring Pacifica together to envision a sustainable future.
